Asha

I am Asha, 28 years old, physically challenged girl. I suffered from polio in childhood. I live in Pappankalan slum with my family of 6 members. My father is an Electrician. I met ASRA CBR team during their survey in my slum. I was a student of 10th class & know nothing about government facilities. ASRA motivated my parents & me and helped me in getting the government facilities like Bus Pass, Rail Pass and Disability Pension.

I also learnt about ASRA's Vocational Training programs. I loved computers but my parents did not agree to send me out of my home, even to ASRA Head Office. Due to counseling of ASRA team, my parents agreed for my admission at ASRA Head Office where I first completed my Basic Computer Training & after successfully completing it, joined Government approved NIELIT 'O' Level course & successfully completed it. For me & my family it was a big achievement. I started aspiring to be independent. Due to my regularity, punctuality, sincerity & hard work, I was admired & selected by ASRA and was given an opportunity to work as a teacher & impart computer training to children like me in my own community. I was one of the first computer teachers to teach computer course in Pappankalan slum in 2012. My parents happily agreed for this. I have also completed my graduation while working with ASRA. I believe that ASRA is the place where people like us can explore their abilities and skills to brighten up their future. I give entire credit of my success to ASRA.
