Pawan Kumar
My name is Pawan Kumar,
34 years old and currently employed with ASRA. I am working with ASRA for
the past 14 years and have grown up in my career and life. At the age of three,
I was affected by polio virus due to which my both lower limbs were affected and
I lost my ability to walk. I was born in a socio economically poor family.
My father worked in a carpenter shop as a labour.
It was embarrassing for me when other students stare at me with sympathy and
disgust in school. I was very introvert. Students in my class doubted
my capabilities and this negativity kept me away from school and education.
I somehow completed my schooling and did 12th with much difficulty.
My constrain was mobility
and self image as a disabled person who walks on the floor.
I started giving tuition classes at my home. I got some confidence in myself
and pursued graduation during which I came to know about ASRA from one of its
Computer Centre students. I enrolled myself in Computer Course. During the
course I also come to know about various activities and facilities provided by ASRA.
I got a Tricycle from ASRA. After completing my course I got a job
in Publishing House. Then I came to know about a vacancy of Data Entry Operator
(DEO) in ASRA. I got selected as Part Time DEO in January, 2008.
ASRA has not just been a source of Vocational learning but it gave me means
of earning my livelihood. During my Job I learnt many new things and after
some experience I applied for full time job at ASRA and soon I was
promoted as full time DEO. During the job, ASRA explored my capabilities
and gave me many opportunities to grow myself.
I got opportunity to teach students in ASRA Computer Centre.
I participated in National Abilympic of India in the year 2009, 2013, 2018 and
2019 and won many medals (Bronze, Silver and Gold medal) in Data Processing &
Desktop Publishing competitions. This became possible only because of
the documentation experience which I got from ASRA during my Job.
I express my heartfelt thanks to ASRA for making my life, a happy life.
