Social Rehabilitation
CBR PROGRAM:
The essence of ASRA work lies its huge CBR program which is working for the inclusion and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) living in Delhi slums and resettlement colonies since 1992. The program focuses on various services such as:
Referral Services:
- To facilitate medical and surgical intervention to enhance functional level of PwDs.
- To facilitate provision of aids and assistive devices to PwDs free of cost, through networking with Government organizations and partner NGOs.
- To provide Individual Counselling Services, Vocational Counselling, Career Counselling and Placement Services.
- To disseminate information about Govt. Schemes, Policies, Benefits, Concessions and scholarships for PwDs and marginalized segments.
- To facilitate the issuance of Disability Certificate, Railway Concessions Certificates, Bus Pass, Pension etc. from State designated authorities.
- Referral to Specialized Agencies, if required.
ASRA CBR MENTAL HEALTH PROJECT
This innovative initiative screens, assesses and supports young children / persons with intellectual disabilities (and associated disorder), by a highly qualified team of psychologists, social workers, community teachers and interns form Delhi University. Simultaneously, individual / group counseling is provided to them and their family members, which is aimed towards inducting & training them in the Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Beneficiaries are first supported through systematic screening and detailed assessment to understand their capabilities and interests. Parents are engaged through counseling and training programs. Based on the assessment outcomes, suitable and appropriate vocational training such as making artificial jewelry by using beads (bracelets, ear rings & necklaces etc.), Art & craft, paintings along with other social skills training is also imparted to the beneficiaries.r sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. EDUCATION UNDER CBR PROGRAM
The Education Centres are run in rented premises within the slum communities. Education is imparted in an inclusive setup at various levels.
- Nursery Education: Nursery Education program was introduced in April, 2010. Children of 3 to 6 years are imparted education so that they can be admitted into mainstream schools for their formal education.
- Non-Formal Education: The children who have never gone to school and the school drop-outs are imparted education so that they can be admitted in the formal schools.
- Remedial Education: The students who are studying in the Government schools and are academically deficient are provided with remedial classes. The aim is to supplement their studies with these extra tuition classes and to enable them to become at par with their peers.
● Special Education: ASRA CBR Education Centres register children with disabilities and provide special education support to them in an inclusive learning environment.
